Small-Stage Concert Series: Concierto de Aranjuez

Shell Point is proud to partner with the Southwest Florida Symphony to offer a performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, with conductor Nir Kabaretti and guest artist Tim Berens on guitar. Following this exquisite, slow Spanish composition, the symphony will perform Haydn’s Symphony No. 101, nicknamed the “Clock” symphony for the tick-tock rhythms of its second movement. Play On!

The Laboratory Theater of Florida is thrilled to present PLAY ON! by Rick Abbot. This hilarious representation of local show business features a group of community theater actors trying to put on a show as the playwright continues to interrupt rehearsal with countless revisions. Beginning with rehearsals and continuing right through to the performance, the show is full of mishaps, mistakes, mayhem, and anything else that could possibly go wrong in a production.

“Play On!” opens on March 10 with an opening night reception at 7:15pm. Performances are on March 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31, and April 1 at 8 p.m. and on March 19, 26, and April 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available through laboratorytheaterflorida.com.

Enjoy this fun and informative class designed to help you identify birds around you. Oriented toward the beginning birder, the classroom session explores how to use birds’ plumage, shape, behavior and habitat to recognize various species. It also covers the effective use of binoculars and field guides. During the second part of the class you will learn more tricks of the trade during a field trip to a nearby park where you can enjoy practicing new skills. Cost is $40.

41st Annual Naples St Patrick Parade

A little over 40 years ago a group of fun-loving Neapolitans got together and decided to have a parade to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The Parade is now the largest privately-funded Parade in the state. It draws over 40,000 people to Old Naples each year to celebrate Irish heritage and Irish culture in America. The Naples St Patrick Foundation, Inc 501(c)3 who puts on the Parade each year has donated over $200,000 to local high school bands and scholarships in the last five years.

Ken Cowan, Organist – Marjorie Sterritte Memorial Organ Concert

One of North America’s finest organists, Ken Cowan is praised by audiences and critics alike for his dazzling artistry, impeccable techniques, and imaginative programming.  A review in ‘The American Organist’ reads, “Mr. Cowan’s technical mastery, expressivity, musicality, and sheer brilliance thrilled the convention audience.”

He performs in major concert venues and churches in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.  He recently was featured at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA, Verizon Hall in Philadelphia, Spivey Hall, and Walt Disney Concert Hall.  Mr. Cowan has performed at many regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists, the Organ Historical Society, and the Royal Canadian College of Organists.

Mr. Cowan received the MM degree and Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music/Institute of Sacred Music, where he studied organ with Thomas Murray.  He received a BM degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, studying with John Weaver.

In 2012, Mr. Cowan joined the keyboard faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University as Associate Professor and head of the organ program.  Previously, he held positions at Westminster Choir College, and as the Associate Organist and Artist in Residence at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City.  This concert is presented to the public without charge.
