Big Changes Planned for Fifth Avenue South

We’ve reported in the past about some big sales in the downtown area. Now, there are plans to demolish several businesses to replace them with condominiums and commercial space, as reported by the Naples Daily News. The businesses include Cafe Luna, Avenue Wine Cafe, Bella Maria Cafe, Kohr’s Family Frozen Custard, and some real estate offices.

In these businesses place there is a proposal for a 3 story building with ground floor commercial space, residential units above, and under ground parking. There are no plans to replace these restaurants with new ones.

This is big news for the downtown area. These are popular restaurants, with Cafe Luna having just been voted second-best Italian restaurant in Naples in the Southwest Florida Choice Awards. According to the Naples Daily News, the restaurant will close before construction starts in may and plan to relocate to North Naples.

Currently, there is a petition against the underground parking and other issues, with about 300 resident signatures.

Check out the rest of the article, written by Joseph Cranney, with lots more detail about what is going on downtown.

A second article, talks about the same property’s owner, Inn on Fifth owner Phil McCabe, who is proposing to build 4 new buildings on Fourth Avenue. These include a 51 room hotel and 57 condo units.
